Expect the unexpected—and be prepared!
Stormy weather and surprise emergencies can throw a wrench into even the best-laid plans. You may have stocked up on emergency extras for the humans in your family. But what about your pets?
It’s quick and easy to put together an emergency kit containing all the essentials your furry companion needs. Ideally, pack your supplies in a sealed container to ensure they stay dry.
You can include:
- Extra collar and leash
- Durable metal food/water bowls
- Recent photo of your pet
- Canned food (3-7 days’ worth) or dry food (rotate every two months)
- Can opener
- Copies of your pet’s medical records
- Vet’s contact information
- Pet first aid kit
- Liquid dish soap
- Pet disinfectant wipes
- Garbage bag for clean up
- Bottled water (7 days’ worth per pet – replace every 2 months)
- Crate/carrier
- Flashlight
- Blanket and towel (1 per pet)
- Paper towels
- Toys
- Treats (switch every 2 months)
- Disposable litter trays, litter, and scoop
- Gauze (for wrapping wounds)
- Nonstick pet bandages and adhesive tape
- Milk of magnesia to absorb poison*
- Hydrogen peroxide (3%) to induce vomiting*
- Eye dropper (to flush a wound or give treatment orally)
- Muzzle to cover pet’s head during treatment
